KSP Life Science Campus Lexington
Project Overview
This project is one of many projects KEG has worked with King Street Properties of Cambridge MA. King Street Properties’ mission is to provide space solutions to companies such as pharmaceutical and bio-tech firms developing lifesaving drugs, makers of medical devices and diagnostic tools, and clean tech companies harnessing renewable materials and energy sources.
The Hartwell Avenue campus includes three adjacent properties that were acquired at separate times and then combined and expanded to include a new 80,000 sf state of the art modern life science building with an adjacent parking structure at 115 Hartwell Avenue in Lexington, MA.
The goal of the development was to create a campus like facility where life science companies could collaborate and thrive. One of the planning challenges was to create a campus facility from three separate properties. The property has topographic differences making their connection difficult and is adjacent to wetlands resource areas making the site and stormwater management system design complicated. The property is further complicated by its proximity to Hanscom airfield and its associated avigation easements which limited building heights.
KEG led all aspects of the site design and permitting for the project. KEG provided topographic and property line surveys; performed due diligence/ planning level studies; provided civil/site design including site layout, grading, and utilities; coordinated transportation planning and resource area delineations; prepared all permit applications; coordinated with the Town representatives; and represented the project through the public hearing process.
The project includes many modern site design components that include provisions for electric and HO vehicles, enhanced walkability and LID stormwater measures consistent with a state of the art life science complex.
